1. I declare National Geoffrey Month to be at an end. On reflection, two weeks is just the right amount of time. So next year I’ll have National Geoffrey Weeks 1 and 2.
2. Another thing that’s ended are my comped subscriptions to Maxim and Stuff, which is fine with me. They could share a single motto: “We photograph everything but the humanity.” All I’ll miss are the included extras - BMW Mini and beer companies were always bundling crazy shit with issues.
3. I’ve started reading (and collecting, I guess) comic books again in earnest, no thanks to Meltdown Comics. No superheros, just modern stuff. All of this started with Buddy Does Seattle, which collect the first fifteen issues of Hate…then I started thinking well, I should really fill in issues 16-30; I have half of them anyway…and soon enough I’m tearing up LA looking for Palookaville #16 and buying 2mm mylar sleeves so I can dispense with boards. Next weekend Ron Rege Jr. will be in town, which is kind of exciting. Also, in case anyone’s interested, my favorite (relatively) underexposed comic artist is Paul Pope, who I think is pretty amazing - try checking out his five-part 100%.
