I’ve been out of it, so I decided to dip my finger back in the lake.
Oval – Photograph (Def Leppard cover)
Daft. Sounds like a soundtrack-only song for a 1990 romantic comedy that was commercial, but had two emotionally truthful scenes.
TV On The Radio – Untitled (as yet)
This is a studio mix that got snuck out in advance, and to nip a term from my esteemed comic book colleagues, here is the thrillpower. I Was A Lover stands out.
AIDS Wolf – Live Deth ep
Ha ha just kidding.
Prince – Black Sweat
Didn’t know ol’
had it in him. Surely this album is going to be a spiritual successor to my beloved Batdance. Seems like collected the best droplets of DFA and the Neps from 2005 and mixed them with half a jig of nasty vodka. I’m so glad he’s alive.
Jay Dee – Donuts
Sounds like a really practiced producer beat tape rather than a fully realized album a la Florida or Your Face Or Your Kneecaps. Like, I’m not sure when I would sit down and listen to this straight through. Still sucks that he died.
Destroyer – Rubies
Skillful I guess but I’m not into it. The songs are bootcut and tapered but all pairs of pants, if you know what I mean.
Liars – Drum’s Not Dead
I can’t stand this album. Nightmare sounds of the morning after an underdose. I ALREADY FEEL DEAD SOMETIMES, LIARS, THANKS.
Mylo – Destroy Rock ‘n’ Roll
Total pap and I challenge you to prove otherwise. Sounds like Dimitri From Paris in drag. While I’m on the subject of Pitchfork picks.
Royksopp – What Else Is There (single)
These are the kinds of clubs I never go to. These clubs I assume are in eastern European countries where they’re ‘ungry for the cool and people are decent enough not to vomit in the VIP room because it’s still, to them, special. Even so, Karin Dreijer Andersson’s vocal gives it a bit of a halo.

I write screenplays, books and push software; I'm a collector and indoorsman. If you have a Masonic scepter or a copy of the Boyd Philadelphia Blue Book (any year), drop me a line.
