Yojimbo 1.1 versus OmniOutliner Pro 3.5

Two life-capturing personal productivity apps! One new, one old! Who wins?

Well, OmniOutliner, which I’ve been using for years now. Yojimbo has some nice ideas - you can assign quick-entry window to a hotkey (like F8), which I was particularly fond of - and it’s excellent at handling various media types, but in the end, the lack of - pay attention - OUTLINING - kills it for me. You can stick a text file in a left-pane folder, but beyond that, forget about nesting. And you can’t really check things off. I need to be able to check things off. If you could “make a new outline” in addition to creating text notes, I’d be pretty sold. Although of course OmniOutliner has an intense wealth of outlining features I doubt Yojimbo would be able to get right on its first try.

But I like to see new apps in this space. Good try, BareBones. Next I’m going to play with DEVONthink.
