- Andy just sent me Thomas Leer’s 1979 Private Plane, which I love. Sounds like an anesthetized Iggy Pop singing over a Neu dubplate.
- Soul Asylum’s Without A Trace. I never ever liked a Soul Asylum song before, but I like this one now. “I joined the grave dancer’s union / I had to file.”
- The Domino “Sound of Young Scotland” series – Orange Juice, Josef K and The Fire Engines – is brilliant. Man, I wish someone had turned me on to Josef K earlier.
- Talking Heads 1975 CBS Studios demos. I can’t say enough about this session – it’s insanely good, perfect sound quality, and the versions are so different from what ended up on Talking Heads: 77. I’ll put my neck out and say Sugar On My Tongue is the best song ever written about the hedonic treadmill.
