As it was

  • Supreme’s bringing back Oakley Frogskins - I’m trying not to buy stuff lately (seriously) but these take me back to summer camp 1991. Maybe I’ll just hold on to that feeling and off on the purchase.
  • I linked to Journal-Inc and the other new-to-me blog I’m reading lately is Notes by Naive, written (so far as I can tell) by a girl in London who likes to cook and knows what she’s doing. You seem lovely, Naive.
  • Speaking of cooking, I made a ragù alla Bolognese tonight in the classical mode that I put over some wide penne - I didn’t have rigatoni. It came out well - luckily I started early and was able to give it four hours to simmer, and my base ingredients were of good quality. I wish I’d taken a picture.
  • I was called for jury duty! My head is all “dude this is the cost of living in a representative democracy” and my heart is checking Google for a way out. I’ll go, of course. We’ll see what happens. And tomorrow I have an appointment with my dentist, the end of my long root canal process - my crown, which I had made last visit, is being stuck on my cut-down tooth. Shouldn’t take long. I wonder if the pendulum will swing in the other direction next week - a cute girl will give me a Cadbury egg, and then I’ll win a contest I forgot I entered ((Don’t laugh, it happened to Andreaa)). Unlikely.
  • Capsule music review #1 - Prodigy - The Return of the Mac: Well, on the + it’s much better than that last Mobb Deep record. On the -, P calls it a mixtape but 35 minutes without skits is awfully short for a mixtape dun!! I don’t care, because any handful of solid new Prodigy tracks is a gift. 7th Heaven (3.5mb) is my favorite - despite Prodigy’s historical distaste for choruses, the one here is sick.
  • Capsule music review #2 - Thich Nhat Hanh - The Art of Mindful Living: I read one of Hanh’s books on mindfulness, but this tape is great. I’ve fallen asleep to this thing twice this week. Here’s five basic meditations you can do anytime - you don’t have to do or know anything special to get benefit from them. And take it from me, they’re totally secular. When Hanh talks about the Buddha, he’s talking about the beloved historical teacher, not a god. Five mp3s, 25mb.
