Serious music post

I’ve been going through a lot of music in preparation for my year-end mixtape (actually Christmas; this tape is going to be Christmas-y) and have come across some interesting links…

  • A video of Anita Lillie’s MusicBox project, which is her Master’s thesis project at the MIT Media Lab – it’s bananas and seems to be running under Mac OS X. Apple: buy her work and integrate some of these features!
  • If you’re not reading the Musicophilia blog and downloading the mixes, you’re missing out. This is the dude who did the awesome hand-curated ten-volume 1981 “box set” that was circulating on SoulSeek.
  • Quick interviews with people who inspired pop songs; I think the Boy George story is my favorite.
  • Saved the best for last – via Cocaine Blunts comes a video interview with DJ Premier where he speaks on the genesis of some of his best beats and just generally acts like an awesome, humble guy. Funny to watch Peter Rosenberg nerd out and silently rap along to “Nas Is Like” but how could you not?
