The Mooncade is an idea for a MAME machine - inside the shell of a Coleco arcade tabletop. I'm working out how to do this now; I have two ideas. The first is to disassemble a PocketPC, mount it inside, and run MAMECE3 on it. The other is to try to get a Nano-ITX board inside somehow and run standard MAME, which would be best. In any case, as I make progress I'll post reports and photos.

Well, I got my unit apart. It was a messy job - I was hoping to be able to keep the internal circuit board intact, but I wound up destroying it with pliers because of hard-to-reach screws. Here's the unit in pieces:
And here's something beautiful: the meat of the nut, the LED. It's covered in glass, heavy, and seems more like an art object then a piece of personal electronics.
Here's the unit with the stickers removed.
So I'm ready for the next phase. There's a lot of now-unnecessary plastic musculature inside to be Dremeled out. It's still unclear if I'll be forced to use a PocketPC, or if a nano-ITX will fit - it probably won't, but hope springs eternal.
