Mood music: Carlos d’Allessio, end credits from Delicatessen

A post over at Enthusiasm turned me on to Carlos d’Allessio’s soundtrack for Delicatessen, which was only ever available in France and Japan. (Go there and download the song Duo, as well.) This track is a kind of accordion calypso, maybe? Try it.

Trivia round-up

A workprint of the Halloween remake showed up on the net; there hasn’t been a movie prerelease like this since, what - Signs? Somebody’s getting fired tomorrow. UPDATE: Douglas of SkeetOM has a whole post about this, including the fact that the version in theaters has reshot portions (and a new ending) not in the […]

Harold and Kumar Go To Amsterdam trailer (teaser?)

The Kumar as terrorist bit is pretty funny.

What was the subtext of The Departed?

Yesterday after the Prince halftime show ((I know I said I wasn’t going to watch the Super Bowl, but hey - Prince!! I couldn’t believe - could not believe - the Foo Fighters cover, but that’s another post. UPDATE! I get it now, FFs covered Darling Nikki.)) I finally got around to watching the SAG […]

Mike Judge’s Idiocracy: FLAWED

No director’s cut on the DVD, huh? Great matte paintings, occasionally funny setups, not much else to recommend. I did like the Dinoscarves-like take on WWII:

The Science of Sleep

Saw this movie yesterday. What I was hoping for, and what it certainly delivered, was Gondry unbound. I like his early US work best - Beck and his shadow on vacation, sunny Dave Grohl as every character in a nightmare. Which is why I wasn’t crazy about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - yes, […]

Clerks II

Just not that funny. The only thing that made me smile was an appropriation of an old Stan Lee-Marvel Comics line. The movie should have started where it ended. *1/2.

So I know I said I wasn’t going to write about this

But I met Martin, and he was REALLY NICE.
Eat beef, get beefy.

Unordered gist

I moved to the Valley and the first “celebrity” I saw was porn star Belladonna, in Ikea. I’m not big on porn stars (really, I’m not) but she looked adorable; I wanted to kiss her. Perhaps this was some kind of weird countertransference on my part.
Tomorrow I’m going to the premiere of Big Momma’s House […]

Just back from Munich

Great cinematography. Otherwise I’m not so sure about it. The moral of the story seemed to be that Israeli Jews and American Jews are different. Also that Jews are prettier when played by goys.

Fiesta!

Bitches, whoever you are, stop trying to hack my new Gmail account! LIKE YOU COULD SUCCEED IF YOU TRIED. Fucking mentalists.
Coke is launching Coke Blak in France next month. It’s half Coke, half coffee. Pepsi tried that in 1994 with Pepsi Kona - I lived in the test market and it grew on me. Louis […]

Keane" rel="bookmark">Impressions of Keane

For the first third of the movie, Lodge keeps the camera so close to Damian Lewis/Keane that it’s like a first-person shooter in reverse; that is, you see the character close and the world behind him or to the side of his profile instead of in front of him. Except instead of shooting, sorrow.
Just vividly […]
