Coke Blak…

tastes HORRIBLE. Like Coke mixed not with black coffee (tastes good, see Pepsi Kona) but rather like Coke mixed with nasty Starbucks frappachino mocha bullshit. Ugh. Plus it’s part diet and has aspartame in it. Gross, gross!

Chanooka

I had a lovely holiday. Went over to my parents’ house and cooked Italian. I made my modified, heretic spaghetti marinara as a first course, then lightly pan-friend yukon potatoes, and olive chicken for the main course from a recipe by Giuliano Hazan. It’s sad that I’m the kind of cook who has to follow […]

Fiesta!

Bitches, whoever you are, stop trying to hack my new Gmail account! LIKE YOU COULD SUCCEED IF YOU TRIED. Fucking mentalists.
Coke is launching Coke Blak in France next month. It’s half Coke, half coffee. Pepsi tried that in 1994 with Pepsi Kona - I lived in the test market and it grew on me. Louis […]

Jaques Pépin is my kitchen hero

I’ve set my MCE box to catch my favorite cooking show - OF ALL TIME - Jaques Pépin’s “Fast Food My Way,” which exemplifies the French knack for turning out simple and delicious dishes at home like it’s nothing. Cuisine bourgeoise is great and everything but I really prefer cuisine du terroir and wine in […]

Goings-on-and-on

Went to Costco yesterday. I haven’t been to a club store like that since the days of BJ’s in Philly. Costco was double that, though. Joint was like a UN food distribution warehouse with brand names plus diamonds. I bought two giant platters of finger fruits and vegetables for the week plus beef jerky, a […]

Become bullets

Anorexia must have an auto-immune component because I just ate for the first time after twenty-four hours of not, uh, eating, and man.
I have my MCE box set to catch Hardball - Chris Matthews is the best of the daily talking heads - and yesterday he had judge Robert Bork as a guest commenting on […]

The apple of my pie

I bought Red Delicious apples today…anyone remember those? Yeah, they’re lousy.
Anyway, back to the back to the plucots. Or hascap. Whatever.

What I’ve learned from Gordon Ramsay

Maybe you’ve seen the new Fox summer show Hell’s Kitchen - about which the less said the better, except: Gordon Ramsay, the star, is actually an excellent chef. I’ve never eaten his food, but his eponymous resturant in London was named fifth best in the world for last year. His motivational method - shouting and […]

I have invented the world’s best sandwich

Rediscovered, possibly. Anyway, I’ve never had this in a resturant or seen it offered. Call it the Geoffrey.
1. Slice a piece of good baguette lengthwise into two halves.

2. Spread one half with pesto; smush the other half into a cup of roasted Divina roasted tomatoes and let tomato juice and garlic soak into the bread […]

Intake

Man, I’m eating like a cracked-out petite-size model. Fresca? Half sour pickles?

I need some pastry stat

KFC Snacker Calories

I’m getting a lot of KFC Snacker-related hits, many for the caloric content. Your search request is my command: Total calories: 320; fat: 16 grams; carbs: 31 grams; dietary fiber: 2 grams. (From Ken Hoffman’s passionate Drive-Thru Gourmet column.) But before you put down your eight bits, think of the chickens, or consider patronizing places […]

I keep journals for everything

I don’t have time to blog today, so I’m going to share the beginning of my cooking journal with you all, which I was going to hold for my 2005 annual but whatever. The backstory is that last week there were two nights where I was too tired to cook and I didn’t have any […]
