Once or twice a year I get email from fellow Litwacks, which I very much appreciate – being a Litwack is a singular and often solitary thing. The question most frequently asked is “are we related?” I don’t know, but a good place to start is LitwackFamily.com. The best-known Litwacks are Harry (Temple basketball coach), Leon (historian) and Gerald (biochemist, my father) and as far as I know I’m not related to the first two. I’ve heard various things about the name over the years – Russian Jews all seem to know it; the extraction seems to be Russian or Belorussian and not Lithuanian as one might expect. (Belarus was formerly known as ‘Litwa;’ I have no idea if that’s meaningful.) If you’re a Litwack, why not leave a comment or something?
I write screenplays, books and push software; I'm a collector and indoorsman. If you have a Masonic scepter or a copy of the Boyd Philadelphia Blue Book (any year), drop me a line.
Hey, I’m a litwack from Canada
What’s up Josh! Where in Canada?
Hi Geoffrey,
. It’s about time the Litwack name gets official representation.
I love the site
Josh and I are both from Toronto.
Hi Jonathan!
Glad to have you aboard; I bookmarked your blog which is very cool. Are you and Josh related? Are there a lot of other Litwacks in Toronto? My grandfather on my dad’s side was in Montreal for a while before he emigrated to Massachusetts in the 20s and let me tell you, my heart occasionally cries out for poutine.
Hello All,
I do not know if we are related but I live in Oklahoma, a small town outside of Tulsa.
Just wanted to say hello. As far as I know we are the only Litwacks in the state.
For interest, amazon.com has a pretty cool book on the Family name.

Just checking in as a Robert Litwack, living in Alaska and doing fine. Not famous though.
Glad to have you Robert! How did you wind up in Alaska? What part?
My grandfather moved from Chicago when my father was in his teens in the early fifties. They, my parents, still live in California but I needed a change and my wife said yes. We have been here for about eight and a half years and for the most part like it.
Forgot, we are located in a little town you might not of heard of called Wasilla.
Robert
Robert – thanks for sharing your story! I think everyone knows Wasilla now because of the Palins.
I’m married to a Litwack – Lois – from Mattapan. Another well known Litwack is Kat Dennings from 2 Broke Girls and other TV and movies. Her real name is Katherine Litwack from the Philly area. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kat_Dennings
Hi fellow Litwacks…..I’m a Litwack via marriage….There’s alot of us in the Boston area……most notable is Georgia Litwack, a published photo/ journalist.
Hello Harry and Judy! Welcome. I did not know about the profusion of Litwacks in Boston, very interesting. Although I have heard about Kat Dennings.
